How do you understand how a forest is coping with climate change?

The plain forest of Castelporziano has survived 2500 years of history, despite being one step away from one of Europe’s largest cities. Like other Italian woods, however, it is now threatened by climate change. Will it survive? Today, we have new tools and technologies that allow us to monitor the physiological state of plants, to understand if they are under stress, and how they will respond to future climatic conditions. Thanks to this early warning system, it will be possible to implement the most appropriate management interventions before it is too late. In this field, Castelporziano is a cutting-edge laboratory: what can we learn from its management? Why should this physiological monitoring become part of the management of all our forests? What funds and tools can be used to achieve such a goal?
